Artist Statement:
I create cultivated images based on a familiar topic with connections to my memories. This allows me to reflect on my past while engaging mindfully with the present. I work in cycles of question and idea gathering, exploring paint and process, and creating on a theme. I especially enjoy exploring subjects I understand through multiple lenses. Alaskan subjects provide rich inspiration for me as I have a lifetime of experiences to revisit and questions to research when creating. Iām interested in color and the effects of the shifting light on color.
I teach art in schools and the community. My work with students helps me think more deeply about my own growth and the importance of experimenting in my art practice and revisiting fundamentals.
Outside the studio, I am often found improving my garden or doing life things with my family. We like to get observe, harvest, and play in nature.
